Call for Papers

The economies of Balkans and Eastern Europe countries have almost completed a course of two decades with significant changes in their characteristics and their adaptation in the new economic environment. This course has fore grounded significant difficulties, has highlighted the problems that the countries of the region should face, and it has led to different states and patterns of growth and enhancement of the economies.
The aim of the conference is to discuss and evaluate the results of the economic policy that have been applied during the last two decades, to suspend the prospect challenges and to investigate the policies in the sector of economy which are considered necessary, so that the countries to be integrated getting as much benefit as possible.
A specific focus, addressed to the global regional and economic scientific community, aims to present the results of scientific research in the areas of major importance of regional development, of sustainable development through the achievement of the goals of Agenda 2030 and in the era of Digital Transformation.
The conference will also address the challenges and environmental risks related to the overconcentration of population and economic activities in urban centers and the opportunities created through the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals. Additionally, the development of information and communication technologies ICT’s and the new challenges created by the corona pandemic have contributed to the acceleration of digital transformation and have created new opportunities for regional scientific research in the spatial analysis. Therefore, the conference will also refer to topics with far-reaching implications for human behavior and interaction in space, such as the 4th industrial revolution, big data, machine learning, artificial intelligence, digital transformation of public services and businesses and robotics.
A section of the conference will be dedicated on the impact of the pandemic on the different economic sectors and on the strategies and prospects for their recovery. This year the conference will include topics such as urban-rural development, spatial planning and resource allocation, urbanization, sustainable development and smart cities, land use, environmental quality, energy transition, cultural heritage, poverty, e-governance, entrepreneurship, spatial statistics and modeling.
The conference has a specific interest on the developing economies in the Mediterranean, Balkans and in Eastern Europe and studies investigating the state of the debate around corporate governance in less developed capital market states.
Papers accepted for the conference must relate to the broader field of economic regional science, sustainable development with particular reference to the 2030 Agenda development goals and Digital Transformation and with emphasis on the Balkan and Eastern European regions.
In general, papers to be accepted for the conference must be related to the wider domain of economic science and health management with particular reference to research and experiences that could be interesting for the regions of Balkan and Eastern Europe.

EBEEC Special Interest Working Groups

Special Interest Working Groups (SIG) serve as a forum for dialogue and interaction around designated issue areas. Working Group participants discuss the issues of their group theme during the conference dates on site and remotely on specific dates during the year. The idea is to create an extended and focused dialogue between group colleagues. This form of engagement may stimulate new research questions and project ideas among other benefits. Each Special Interest Working Group works under the responsibility of a contact person who is the leader of the group. Each contact person gathers and coordinates the participants of the group. Special Interest Working Groups are open to all EBEEC participants. You are kindly invited to contact the responsible person for the group(s) you are interested to participate.
